Rick Martin practices in the areas of trademarks, copyrights, trade secret protection, IP licensing, infringement litigation, and related intellectual property matters.
Rick was born in Hawaii, attended high school there, was raised in Minnesota, and now divides his time between Honolulu and Perrysburg, Ohio. While in law school, Rick clerked for the Public Defender’s office, for the Judicial Planning Committee of the Minnesota Supreme Court, and for the Chief Judge of Minnesota’s First Judicial District. Prior to entering law school, Rick was a founder and principal partner in Collins Communications Systems Company, located in the Twin Cities.
He has a technical background in telecommunications systems, software, and computer networks. His primary practice areas include trademarks, licensing, technology transfer agreements, copyright, and intellectual property matters relating to the internet. Rick has also served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Toledo College of Law.
Prior to joining Shumaker, Rick was a founding member of Fraser Clemens Martin & Miller LLC.
When not in the firm’s Toledo office, he practices full-time remotely from Honolulu and considers himself very fortunate to be able to do so.
