JENNIFER B. COMPTON is a partner in the Sarasota, Florida office of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP and is Co-Department Administrator of the Employment and Labor Law Department. Her practice focuses on employment law counseling and litigation. She is Board Certified by The Florida Bar in Labor & Employment Law.
Ms. Compton primarily represents employers and provides assistance in preventative counseling and the defense of litigation brought by current and former employees. Ms. Compton regularly practices in Federal and State courts as well as in arbitration. Areas of defense recently handled by Ms. Compton include claims under the ADA, FMLA, FSLA, ADEA, Florida Whistleblower Act, and Florida Trade Secret Act. Ms. Compton also regularly litigates to enforce non-competition and non-solicitation agreements against former employees, as well as defending claims for enforcement on behalf of employers who have hired new employees subject to such covenants. Additionally, Ms. Compton works with executives separating out from local, regional and national employers, including the areas of severance and restrictive covenants. She is a frequent lecturer on employment law and litigation issues for employers.
